American Cancer Society  Relay For Life West Bend - 2006
A Community Fundraising Event to Fight Cancer

Great Fund Raising Ideas!

Letter Writing Campaign:
Send letters to everyone you know explaining why you are involved
in the Relay and what it means to you. Include information about extreme prizes and a self addressed envelope. A sample letter is included with this information. Please copy and revise to your own needs.

Yard Sale:
Have your own yard sale and use the proceeds for your team total.

Donation Of Sales:
Encourage your company to set aside a percentage of sales made during a specific time period to go to your team to help in the fight
against cancer. (i.e. Oil changes on Mondays for a month, haircuts/styling products on a particular Friday, % of total restaurant receipts on Mother’s Day etc.)

Freddie The Flamingo:
Put flamingos in people’s yards with a note stating "IF you make a donation to the American Cancer Society, Freddie the Flamingo
will fly away to another year." This works with trolls on a desk and even toilets to flush away cancer.

Casual Day:
Employees pay $5.00 to dress in casual attire.

Bake Sale:
Sell baked goods with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society or have a bake-less bake sale where all who were willing to bake donate the money it would have cost to bake the items instead of baking them.

Candy Counting Contest:
Fill a jar with any candy item. Charge $1 for each guess at the number of pieces in the jar. Offer a prize or the jar of candy as the prize at the end of the contest.

Reserved Parking:
Auction off the use of a ‘premium’ parking space for a week, month or even a year.

Baby Photo Contest:
Have employees bring baby photos of themselves. Each person pays $1 to guess who the babies are. The person with the most correct answers wins a prize.

Vending Machines:
Raise the price of each item by $.10 for a month and collect the extra money for the Relay.

Potluck:
Volunteers bring potluck breakfast or lunch. Those participating pay $5 for an all-you-can-eat home cooked meal.

Change Jar:
Set out a jar to collect change specifically for the Relay. Have contests between departments or stores to see who earns the most.

Pizza Sale:
Ask your company to purchase pizzas. Prepare them and sell them for $1 a slice with all proceeds going to your Relay team.

Pie Tossing Contest:
Ask the boss to participate in a pie-tossing contest in which EMPLOYEES PAY $5 to toss a pie at the boss’s face.

Yellow Ribbon Sale:
For $1, employees can purchase a yellow ribbon to wear
in honor of a friend or loved one who has had or presently is fighting cancer. Create a wall to list the names of these people.

Waiting For A Cure:
Wait tables at a local restaurant and collect tips and wages for the Relay.

Just Do It:
Hold a pet fashion show, bowl-a-thon, bike-a-thon, skate-a-thon, etc.

Company Match:
Ask your company to match a team pledge.

Sell Cookbooks:
Collect recipes from team members/co-workers, print in books and sell for $10.

Payroll Deductions:
Have employees make their own contribution by having it directly taken from their
paychecks every two weeks.

Sports Events & Contests:
Set up challenge matches between individuals or departments for bowling , tennis, racquetball, softball, or other sports. Charge an entry fee and admission fee. Sell refreshments at the event. Hold a "stump others" photo contest.
